All of the rain here in South Carolina reminds me of a pivotal moment for me as a backpacker that happened in the rain a few years ago.
Rain is historically viewed as the enemy of outdoor activity. But the fact of the matter is, sometimes it is going to rain and there is nothing we can do about it.
However, there IS something we can do about it. As the saying goes, life is 10% what happens to you and 90% how you react to it. I can either choose to be miserable and complain about the rain (or just go home), OR I can lower my head and hike through it.
Once I realized this, I took the high road and realized that hiking in the rain is rather invigorating.
The difference between a burden and an opportunity is just mindset. If I am faced with hardship, it might be really annoying but going through it will surely make me stronger.
